Ukrainian ex-prisoners in russian TDCFCs: how to back home?

UnMode is receiving numerous complaints from ex-prisoners of Ukrainians who were taken out of Kherson; people spend more than six months in the TDCFC (Temporary Detention Center for Foreign Citizens) of russia while waiting for documents to leave.

At the same time, despite the official position of Ukraine on the assistance of all structures for the speedy return of Ukrainian citizens home, we continue to receive refusals to process the documents required for departure.

Andrey's story

Andriy, one of the 2,500 ex-prisoners in Kherson, has been in Volgograd's TDCFC since January 2023. All this time, his mother in Kyiv has been trying to process documents for leaving. We are attaching another refusal from the Central Interregional Department of the State Migration Service in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.

UnMode prepared a collective complaint to the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine on behalf of the citizens of Ukraine who are in russian TDCFC. We ask you to look into the situation and check the existing state mechanisms of assistance to Ukrainian prisoners upon their return to their homeland for the observance of human rights and freedoms.

We continue to support Ukrainians who are in russian prisons and are looking for resources to help each of them return home. It seems impossible, but in spite of everything, we believe in the power of civil society and in the power of goodness. Good always and invariably conquers any evil.
