On June 26th, UnMode and EPLN jointly submitted an appeal to the United Nations Human Rights Committee regarding the case of Andriy Artemyev.
This is our latest attempt to draw the attention of international human rights institutions to the issue of the unlawful detention of former Ukrainian prisoners in the systems of Russian CVSIGs (Centers for Temporary Detention of Foreign Citizens).
Our appeal is based on facts and evidence that confirm the violation of Andriy Artemyev's rights during his imprisonment. We call on the international legal community to pay attention to this case and take measures to protect the rights of Ukrainian citizens who are subjected to unlawful treatment in CVSIGs.
Let us remind you that Andriy Artemyev, a Ukrainian citizen, was held in the Center for Temporary Detention of Foreign Citizens in Tolyatti for over 7 months without receiving medical assistance. The situation was further complicated by Andriy's complex illnesses, including progressing HIV infection.
On the day of Andriy's release from CVSIG, we conducted an interview with him, which can be found at https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1668764096875448.
In this video, we share the story of Andriy Artemyev, one of the many Ukrainian prisoners we support. He is among the few who have chosen to fight against the system until the end, despite the slim chances of achieving justice.
We hope that this case will serve as inspiration for people who find themselves in similar situations.
