In 2023, UnMode took center stage. Our efforts to support prisoners and those facing adversity captured the attention of both the public and government agencies. Media coverage brought our important work to a wider audience.
But with increased visibility came increased risks. In some countries, our activities raised concerns among authorities. Team members faced interrogations and threats. In Russia, one of our organizations was labeled a "foreign agent," resulting in fines and legal challenges. For the safety of our team, we had to operate in the shadows.
This was a difficult decision, as transparency is a cornerstone of our work. However, the safety of our volunteers became our top priority. We now protect their identities and financial information. We've had to adapt our operations to avoid risks in certain countries.
Despite these challenges, we remain committed to our mission. We continue to share our achievements while safeguarding the privacy of those on the frontlines of our work.
In 2023, over 50 media outlets worldwide covered our efforts. We are adapting to the changing environment, ensuring transparency while protecting our team.
We will not be silenced!
